What Is The Difference Between Cruiser And Touring Motorcycles
Theyre built for people who ride a lot over long distances.
What is the difference between cruiser and touring motorcycles. Touring bikes are also on the heavy side but built for very different purposes. Comfort is king with a touring bike and there is a lot of practicality in the design. However they vary greatly from the North American touring motorcycle because they were based off the sport motorcycle architecture rather than a cruiser.
Cruisers can and often are modified to be more touring oriented while a touring bike is less likely to be made into a cruiser. That helps cruiser bikes that have minimal suspension the softer sidewalls add some comfort. Cruisers are always big in the style department.
This is a big generalization. I think its mostly semantics but to me the main difference is range. A touring bike is simpler and the details are all about functionality as opposed to aesthetics.
Cruisers are meant to be cool touring bikes are built to a riding purposemany miles in comfort and capable of real handling for fun and emergencies if youre going to be on the road for 6months youll wear the cool right off a cruiser and be left witha big heavy lump thats not good at anything other than looking impressive while parked. Both are truly iconic styles and have made up the majority of cool-guy or girl shots in the movies especially old-school Hollywood. Adventure motorcycles are motorcycles with touring capability on paved and unpaved roads.
Touring motorcycles are built for touring the wide open road obviously but this means that they are often big bikes with very powerful engines. Anyone who is looking at doing some seriously long days on their bike should consider a touring motorcycle over a cruiser whilst a cruiser is an obvious choice for those badasses out there. From fast and furious sport bikes to classy tourers and laid-back cruisers theres something for every free spirit out there looking to embark on a long adventure-packed journey.
I have a sport adventure bike BMW s1000xr that i have made into a touring bike with additions like bags and satellite radio and seat modifications but it doesnt have sufficient range to be a really great touring bike. The cruiser on the other hand is more about style power and hard riding. The seating position on a cruiser is like a sofa and theyre designed to make lots of noise.
